Transport Green and Fair

Green Policies But Fair to All

Transport is a key issue that we will give total priority to good transport allows for a good economy.

One of the biggest wastes of fuel is traffic Jams. This will be significantly reduced by building a modern road structure improving what we have by fitting intelligent traffic lights

To encourage a more consistent flow of traffic on motorways at non-peak times the speed limit will be reviewed with the possibility of increasing the limit beyond 70 mph during  quite periods this should help and encourage people to use Motorways throughout the day reducing peak and troughs .

A survey reported that at some points of the day 90% of vehicles on the road in towns or cities are looking for car parking spaces. (Hence the traffic jam) it will now be council’s responsibility to cut down on this waste. Bigger car parks will be built and councils will be measured on traffic flow with penalties imposed for slow flow rates. This will also encourage a much better public service. Also car-parking fees will be reviewed with the aim of reducing the cost of parking in towns and cities.

Road works be controlled with any reduction in traffic flow would result in a  fine to the council who would intern fine the contractor encouraging road works to be completed quickly and at non peak times.

Any company operating bus routes will also have to take on 20% non-viable routes to ensure transport is for all.

All buses and taxis must be carbon neutral.

Cars running on zero emission fuels will pay no road tax

Tax on Petrol or Diesel will be reduced for the first 200 gallons of fuel purchased this will increase significantly over 200 gallons used per year giving the poorer members of the community the freedom to use cars again. Fuel purchased at the discount will be monitored on your driving licence. An added advantage this would also Make it very expensive for people to Drive without a valid licence.

Congestion charging will be banned all members of the community should have the same right in visiting the city we will not control traffic by removing the poor hardworking family from the roads. However we must control this traffic so a system shall be set up to look at the need to visit the city by car and why public transport is not an option. This will not look into the Status of the person but the need only.
